STeaP: The Tea Vodcast

STeaP Episode #10: Genmai Cha

Today we try the peasant tea, Genmai Cha. This green tea is unique in it’s use of popcorn and puffed rice. It’s not just for cereal anymore!

We also announce the Tea Showdown Giveaway. Does your tea have what it takes to survive a no holds barred tea tasting extravaganza?!

Adagio’s Genmai Cha is one of the teas that got me hooked on green tea — I especially love their price. =) For a bit more, though, I personally think Rishi’s and Mellow Monk’s are a lot tastier.

Rishi’s — http://www.rishi-tea.com/store/product.php?productid=5021 — is out of stock right now, but it was REALLY smooth and nutty. Almost seemed to have some characteristics of a Tie Guan Yin/Iron Goddess, which I personally like a lot.

Mellow Monk’s — http://www.mellowmonk.com/buyGreenTea.htm#genmaicha — seems to vary a lot year-by-year, but in previous years it was the tastiest and most flavorful Genmai Cha I’ve had. It was moderately grassy (which I like) and generally less puffed-rice-ish, but the flavor was massive.

I haven’t had Adagio’s this year so I might be way off here, but those are two that I personally liked a lot. =)

    Congrats on 10 episodes! =)
